Nigeria To Refurbish Five Major Airports

Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze, said the Federal Government has approved the remodelling of five major airports to international standards. The project will cost about N90 billion. The remodelling will involve the construction of new runways and the total upgrade of all the terminal buildings at Abuja, Enugu, Kano, Lagos and Port Harcourt. The Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu, is already closed since February 2010 for a complete renovation.

We have heard this news since 1999 and aboslutely nothing came out of it but more corruption and embezzlement. Nigeria’s gateway (MMA) is a total farce, a relic of the early 1970s. I’ll believe it when I see the construction cranes moving in and the blueprint itself.

Even with construction cranes I won’t believe it. Afterall they mobilized equipment for the hotel that is supposed to be built right in frint of the MMIA terminal, yet years later it is still just a big hole in the ground.

I truly hope this encompasses a wholistic approach to the Airport development. Right now they just build anywhere they feel there is enough space.
