MaxAir To Lift 36,000 Hajj Pilgrims

MaxAir announced it will fly 36,000 pilgrims (43% of the total number) to Saudi Arabia this year, following the allocation by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). The airline will use its three B743 aircraft for the operation and keep a fourth as standby aircraft.

Kabo Air, Meridian Airlines and Medview Airline will be responsible for carrying the remaining Hajj pilgrims. Meridian and Medview will have to wet-lease aircraft for this end, while Kabo Air may employ its B742 aircraft.

MaxAir’s 747-300s’ are all over 23 years old so why have they been awarded the bulk of pilgrims to carry or even to carry any? I thought the Pilgrim’s Board was disallowing aircraft over 20 years old. Im not against aircraft or airlines with fleets that old as long as maintenance records show proper scheduled checks.

  2. Good says :

Good for max air and the pilgrims. safe trip

No apologies for being pedantic but I can hardly find any information about Maxair. All i could find were an incomplete website, an interview with a media person. The presumption is that due diligence would/ should have been carried out by the Hajj Board but if I was to have a relative who might end up on one of these carriers / aircraft I need to know about its safety record, personnel et al. The 743s’ are all ex Japanese Airlines which is good but need to know current status of those running these airlines.

MaxAir has been in de Hajj charter business for years as Mangal Airlines. The airline is owned by Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, who is well connected to the higher echelons of the Nigerian political elite. The aircraft are maintained by Garuda Maintenance.

And Kabo also has B762/3 which are relatively newer than thier B742. But note that the only time those aircraft fly (B742)is during the hajj period. One will expect that at other times those aircraft will be kept in shape.

  5. HASSAN says :

we are look forward to lease B747 as from 21 to 24 Nov on ACMI basis sector JEDDAH KHRTOUM JEDDAH

I am very impressed with d way maxair is performing over d years. Pls i would b grateful to u if u can verify d status of a staff wit maxair, who claim to be a pilot wit maxair, his name as he said is capt peter manaseh. He goes about saying maxair mgt does not pay him salary & allowance becos he is a director, consequently, he keeps on begging for money. This act is a real dent on maxair image. Pls i wld like to know d real status of dis guy wit maxair. Thanks.
