Aero to commence Abuja-Uyo route

Aero announced it will commence daily flights between Abuja and Uyo per 9 July 2012. Flight schedule:

  • AJ157 Abuja – Uyo 12:45-13:55
  • AJ158 Uyo – Abuja 12:45-13:55

Aero already operates daily flights between Lagos and Uyo. Uyo Airport, Akwa Ibom, is also served by Arik Air and until recently by Dana Air.

Anyone have the traffic numbers for Uyo and a general outlook so far?
The NAA still have no traffic data published for 2010 and 2011 on their page.

    • Aviation in Nigeria says :

      According to the State Government:
      – 2010: 138,000 passengers
      – 2009-2011: 403,000 passengers and 7,779 flights.
Akwa Ibom State was subsidising Dana Air’s flights though.

But with four scheduled flights daily (Arik and Aero) and a couple of charter flights, the question is whether the new N18billion terminal is really warranted.

        Thanks again.

With only 14.6 million passengers in 2011 and 34 million projected in 2026 from the ministry presentation, the task is to ensure developments are fundamentally demand-driven. Economies of efficiency will be preferred over scale.

And they still have to find a smart way to tune these airport projects with regional development.

I wonder how the new one at Asaba is doing.

18 billion Naira for a terminal of questionable value. Nigeria for you
